Although common during early Spring, very unusually this year, vineyards throughout England have had to deal with Spring frosts well into May - just at the critical time when tender new shoots are growing away with increasing energy.
Both Monday and Thursday night this week saw all hands on deck for (hopefully) a final timely lighting of our Bougies and it was a spectacular sight!
Fortunately the vines survived largely intact!
At Chilworth Manor Vineyard, weather forecasts become something of an obsession in Spring, but it does mean that we can plan the protection of the vines as thoroughly as possible so that nothing comes between the wonderful new growth and a great harvest!
